MDaemon Email Server for Windows
Current version of MDaemon Messaging Server is v23| Release Notes |QuickStart Guide

Setup for iPhone with MDaemon

Setting up your iPhone with MDaemon

If you are going to be using your iPhone from outside your network (which you probably are), then you will need to ensure that your MDaemon server is accessible to your iPhone when it is connecting from the Internet back into your server.

This will usually require that your router/firewall has been configured appropriately so that your MDaemon server is accessible on the following ports:-

IMAP: TCP port 143
SMTP: TCP port 25

We recommend using IMAP, but if you are going to be connecting using POP instead, then you will need access on TCP port 110 instead of 143. If you are going to be using SSL encrypted connections (if you're not sure, then you're probably not), the appropriate port numbers are as follows:-

IMAP over SSL: TCP port 993
POP over SSL: TCP port 995

Make sure that you've previously logged into your account via WorldClient at least once - this ensure that all your standard personal folders such as 'Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items' are present along with your Inbox.

Go into your iPhone's 'Settings' and then select 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars'.

Select 'Add Account'...

...and then 'Other' from the list.

Fill in the details...

Name: Your name
Address: Your email address
Password: Your MDaemon account password
Description: Whatever you like here, but typically your email address or name

...and click 'Save'

On the 'New Account' screen, select IMAP (IMAP is far better than POP) and complete the details as follows:-

Incoming Mail Server
Host Name: Your server's IP address or host name
User Name: Your email address
Password: Your MDaemon account password (this should be completed already)

Outgoing Mail Server
Host Name: Your server's IP address or host name again
User Name: Your email address again
Password: Your MDaemon account password again

...and click 'Save'.

If you get the following error simply click 'Yes' to continue

Once done, you should be back to the following screen showing your new email account.

Select the new account, then scroll down and click the 'SMTP' button because we want to check that it's selected the correct SMTP port to use.

Click on the 'Primary Server' button to view the server details.

In almost all cases, your 'Server Port' should be set to 25.

Before we can configure the iPhone to use your MDaemon account's server side IMAP folders for Sent, Draft and Deleted items, we need to access your account from the iPhone so that it can synchronise the folder list. To do this, simply go back to your iPhone's home screen and then go into your Mail.

Click the 'Mailboxes' button and you should see the same folders that you see in your WorldClient account.

Now go back into your email settings as described above, select your email account, scroll down and click 'Advanced'.

Configure the 'Mailbox Behaviours' as shown below:-

And that's it!
